|O Consulado Honorário funciona em regime de voluntariado (sem remuneração) e existe principalmente para servir a comunidade portuguesa da Nova Zelândia.
The Honorary Consulate is a voluntary post (not funded), that exists principally to assist the Portuguese community of New Zealand.
If you have had a Portuguese ID card previously, you need
to produce the original expired ID card, or sign a declaration
stating that you have lost it. You need to appear in person at the
Consulate in Auckland (by appointment) to sign the
application form and have your fingerprints collected.
The fee is $25, plus $5 when you request return by courier to a
destination in New Zealand. The fee is payable in cash, by
credit card or by direct banking deposit to
account number 02-0191-0322861-01.
Attendance in Auckland is by
appointment. To make an appointment, please contact the
Consulate by telephone (09) 255 2569 or email
You need also to produce two colour photographs with a white background,
where the entire head fits into a 32 mm square. Please note that this is smaller than the
normal New Zealand passport photo. We suggest that you ask the
person taking the photo to follow the specs for Indian
passports, which are similar.
The Consulate in Auckland is not
authorised to renew the "Cartão de Cidadão", only the "Bilhete
de Identidade" (old format). Cartão
services are available from the Consulate in Sydney and in
Portugal. The Bilhete will be valid for one year only, to enable
you to renew your passport.
If you are an adult applying for a Portuguese ID card
for the first time, you need to present also a current valid
passport or other photo ID.
Identity cards are issued in Lisbon and
returned in fortnightly diplomatic bags. The total issue
time is approximately three months, so we recommend that you ensure that your ID
card is renewed at least six months before your passport
