PASSPORTS
Portuguese passports include biometric data, which requires applicants to appear in person at
the Honorary Consulate in Auckland. It is no longer possible to apply by post. Passports can only be issued to holders of a valid and current identity card ("Bilhete de Identidade" ou "Cartão de Cidadão"). If you do not have an identity card or if yours has expired, see the relevant page for information on how to apply.
The fee is NZ$135, plus $5 if you request return by courier to a destination in New Zealand. The fee is payable in cash, by a cheque made out to "Portuguese Consulate" or by direct banking deposit to account number 02-0191-0322861-01. There are no EFTPOS or credit card facilities.
Attendance in Auckland is by appointment. To make an
appointment, please contact the Consulate by telephone (09) 255
2569 or email
daniel@silva.co.nz.
The passport will be issued within ten days of application.
If you have a current prior passport but do not produce it for cancellation (after which it is returned to you), an additional fee of NZ$95 applies. If you have a visa in your current passport, you will need to take
the cancelled passport, along with the new passport, to the Immigration
Service to have your visa transferred. Passports are valid for five years,
except for children under four, whose passports are valid for
two years.
