The Honorary Consulate is a voluntary post (not funded), that exists principally to assist the Portuguese community of New Zealand.
Portuguese passports include biometric data, which requires applicants to appear in person at
the Honorary Consulate in Auckland. It is no longer possible to apply by post. Passports can only be issued to holders of a valid and current identity card ("Bilhete de Identidade" ou "Cartão de Cidadão"). If you do not have an identity card or if yours has expired, see the
relevant page for information on how to apply.
The fee is NZ$135, plus $5 if you request return by courier to a destination in New Zealand. The fee is payable in cash, by
credit card or by direct banking deposit to account number
